What it is

Most temporary authorisations can be renewed from Spain. Under the Immigration Regulation (Royal Decree 1155/2024, for example articles 64, 80 and 86), you apply during the two months before your authorisation expires; an application filed within the three months after expiry is still accepted, although a penalty procedure may be opened. In Valencia province, residence and work authorisations are handled by the Oficina de Extranjería of the Subdelegación del Gobierno. Many renewals can be filed electronically, without visiting the office.

After five years of legal residence you may be eligible for long-term residence. Once the renewal is approved, you apply for a new TIE at the police: in Valencia city, fingerprints and collection are at the Comisaría de Patraix (Calle Gremis, 6).

Who it is for

  • Non-lucrative residents renewing in Valencia.
  • Digital nomads and workers whose authorisation is ending.
  • Students moving on to a different authorisation.
  • Residents with five years in Spain looking at long-term residence.

Documents usually needed

  • Passport and current TIE.
  • Renewal application form for your type of authorisation.
  • Proof that you still meet the requirements (income, health insurance, employment, studies).

  • Padrón certificate.

Each authorisation has its own renewal requirements. We check them for your case before filing.

Not necessarily. There is a grace period after expiry, although late filing can lead to a penalty. Contact us immediately.

Do I have to go to the foreigners' office in Valencia?

Many renewals can be filed online. You will still need to attend the police for the fingerprints of your new card.
