What it is

Becoming autónomo involves two registrations: one with the Agencia Tributaria, where you declare your activity and tax regime, and one with the Social Security in the self-employed scheme (RETA), where you choose your contribution base. Both can normally be done online.

Before you start you need a NIE (and, if you are not an EU citizen, an authorisation that allows self-employment), plus a Social Security number. If you are just arriving in Valencia, we organise the steps in the right order.

Who it is for

  • EU citizens starting a business or freelance work in Valencia.
  • Non-EU residents whose authorisation allows self-employment.
  • Digital nomads who need to register in Spain.
  • People switching from employee to self-employed.

Documents usually needed

  • NIE, TIE or EU registration certificate.
  • Social Security number.
  • Spanish bank account details.
  • Description of your activity and expected income.
  • Digital certificate or Cl@ve, or authorisation for us to file on your behalf.

Choosing the right activity code and tax options matters. We explain them before filing.

How we handle it

  1. Planning. We go through your activity, expected income and options.
  2. Tax registration. We file your registration with the Agencia Tributaria.
  3. Social Security. We register you in the self-employed scheme with the appropriate base.
  4. Next steps. We explain your quarterly filings and, if you want, quote ongoing bookkeeping.

Timeframes

Once the documents are ready, registration is usually completed within a few days.

Price

From 90 € + VAT for the registration. Quarterly tax returns and bookkeeping are quoted separately.
